Jali
Jali is ornate pierced stone, carved in ornamental patterns. Used widely in classical Moslem and Indian architecture, Jali work provided decorative screening, often allowing the harem to observe, but be unobserved.
De Ferranti uses traditional geometric Jali work to create carved stone and wood screens and panels. However, the look of Jali can also be achieved in cast metals - offering potential for decorative cabinetry inserts, security grilles and other applications.
‘Moucharabieh’, the Moroccan form of Jali, is formed using lattice and tuned lathes and this too, can be made to special commission.
